Clay soils, found in parts of Nassau County, need extra attention to drainage to prevent water from becoming trapped beneath the pavers.

The aggregate base is the backbone of any paver driveway. We install crushed stone in lifts, compacting each layer with plate compactors and rollers to achieve the density needed to support vehicle traffic. For residential driveways, we typically install six to eight inches of compacted base, topped with a one-inch bedding layer of concrete sand or manufactured stone dust that provides a smooth, level setting surface for the pavers.

Paver installation requires skill, patience, and precision. Our experienced crew lays each paver according to the predetermined pattern, maintaining consistent joint spacing throughout. We work from the edges inward, cutting pavers as needed to fit curves, borders, and transitions with tight, clean lines. Edge restraints are secured along all open edges to prevent lateral movement and maintain the integrity of the interlocking system over time.

After all pavers are set, we sweep polymeric sand into the joints and activate it with water. Polymeric sand hardens to lock the pavers in place, resist weed growth, and prevent insect intrusion into the joints. This final step gives the driveway its finished look and long-term stability.

Long Island's proximity to the coast means salt air, high humidity, and occasional flooding are realities we design for. We select paver materials with low absorption rates and high freeze-thaw resistance to ensure they hold up in our marine climate. We also design robust drainage systems beneath and around the driveway to handle Long Island's substantial rainfall without allowing water to undermine the base.
