Professional walkways & entryways for Bay Shore homeowners. Revitalized South Shore hamlet with ferry access
Bay Shore is home base for Brothers Paving & Masonry, and our walkway and entryway projects here reflect the pride we take in our own community. From the revitalized Main Street corridor to the waterfront neighborhoods along the Great South Bay, we have installed hundreds of walkways across Bay Shore — paver paths connecting driveways to front doors, concrete walkways along side yards, natural stone entryways leading to rebuilt stoops, and everything in between. When you see our trucks in Bay Shore, we are not passing through. We are home.
Bay Shore's housing stock ranges from pre-war Colonials near the LIRR station to mid-century ranches south of Montauk Highway and newer construction on the east side toward East Islip. Each style presents different walkway needs: older homes often have cracked concrete paths with poor grading that sends water toward the foundation, while newer homes may have builder-grade walkways that are too narrow or lack design integration with the rest of the property. We evaluate every Bay Shore walkway project site-specifically, recommending materials and widths that match the home's architecture and the homeowner's daily use.
Because we are based in Bay Shore, our response time is unmatched. Estimates are fast, material deliveries are short-haul, and our crew can mobilize to your property within the same week in most cases. We know the Town of Islip permitting process inside and out, we know which Bay Shore streets have utility conflicts, and we know the soil conditions block by block. No other walkway contractor can match that level of local knowledge.
Bay Shore sits on South Shore outwash plain soils that are predominantly sandy and drain well in most areas, but pockets of clay and organic fill exist — particularly in the older neighborhoods near the waterfront where historic fill was used to raise grades. These variable conditions mean walkway bases must be evaluated per-site, not assumed. We excavate to a minimum 8-inch depth for paver walkways and 10 inches for concrete, adjusting deeper when we encounter soft or organic subgrade material. Geotextile fabric goes down on every Bay Shore walkway project to prevent base contamination.
The neighborhoods south of Montauk Highway are closest to the Great South Bay and experience salt air exposure that accelerates surface deterioration on unsealed concrete and certain natural stones. We specify air-entrained concrete mixes and recommend breathable sealers for paver and stone walkways in these waterfront zones. For homes along Bay Shore Avenue and the streets near the ferry terminal, we also account for higher pedestrian traffic and occasional flooding during nor'easters by pitching walkways aggressively away from foundations and installing catch basins where necessary.
Bay Shore's Main Street revitalization has brought renewed energy to the entire community, and homeowners throughout the hamlet are investing in curb appeal improvements that match the area's upward trajectory. A new walkway is one of the highest-visibility, lowest-cost exterior upgrades a Bay Shore homeowner can make — visitors see it before they see anything else. We design walkways that connect seamlessly to existing driveways, stoops, and landscaping, creating a unified streetscape that elevates the entire property.
As Bay Shore's hometown contractor, we stand behind every walkway we install here with the knowledge that our neighbors will see our work every day. That accountability drives the quality standard on every project we take on in this community.

Learn MoreBay Shore's terrain is flat to gently sloping toward the Great South Bay, which means natural drainage gradients are minimal and proper surface pitch is critical on every walkway. We grade a minimum quarter-inch per foot away from the foundation, and in waterfront neighborhoods where groundwater is higher, we often install French drains or channel drains parallel to the walkway to intercept subsurface water before it reaches the house. The sandy outwash soils compact well for aggregate base, but we always probe for clay lenses and organic pockets — common near the bayfront — that require deeper excavation and a drainage layer of clean stone beneath the base course. Bay Shore properties near the ferry terminal and Main Street may also require coordination with village improvement infrastructure and utility locations.
Real projects we've completed for Bay Shore homeowners.
Demolished a crumbling 1960s concrete walkway and replaced it with a 5-foot-wide Cambridge Ledgestone paver walkway in Toffee-Onyx blend. Added a flared landing at the driveway connection, integrated low-voltage LED path lights, and rebuilt the front stoop steps with matching materials.
Scope: 280 sq ft walkway, landing, 3 steps, landscape lighting
Installed a 65-foot concrete walkway along the side yard connecting the driveway to the backyard patio gate. Broom-finish surface for slip resistance, with a 6-inch compacted gravel base and proper pitch to direct water away from the foundation. Added a Belgian block edge border for visual definition.
Scope: 220 sq ft concrete walkway with Belgian block border
